[ENG] Written sources have mentioned Osmussaare already in 13th century. However, it's believed, that the island's name came from the Viking's or even from Iron Age and it's associated with Oden, god of Vikings. There are several legends linking island with him: an erratic boulder carried Oden's name (Odens stain), and it's said, it was Oden's tombstone. Another myth says, that Oden, coming from cape Põõsaspea, took of his shoe and emptied it from sand and so Osmussaar was made.
Over the centuries Osmussaar was habitated by coastal Swedes or Estonian Swedes. In 1930s lived seven families in the island (almost 140 people). The village in the center of the island was called Bien. After the departure of Soviet army Osmussaar was uninhabited until 2001, when 2 people moved to the island.
The most significant preserved building in the island are the ruins of the chapel, built in 1766 (Jesu Kapella). Treasure is hidden nearby the chapel.

[EST] Kirjalikes allikates on Osmussaart nimetatud juba 13. sajandil, aga nime usutakse pärinevat Vikingi või Rauaajast ning seostatakse vikingite jumala Odeniga. Temaga seob saart mitu legendi: üks rändrahn kandis Odeni nime (Odens stain), mida uskumustes peeti isegi Odeni hauakiviks. Teise pärimuse järgi olevat Oden Põõsaspea neemelt astudes tühjendanud oma saapast liiva, millest saigi Osmussaar.
Osmussaare põlisasukateks olid sajandite vältel rannarootslased. 1930ndatel aastatel elas Osmussaarel seitse perekonda (ligi 140 inimest). Saare keskosas asunud sumbküla kandis nime Bien. Praegusel ajal on saarel kaks püsielanikku.
Kõige märkimisväärsemaks säilinud ehitiseks on 1766. aastal rajatud lubjakivist kabeli (Jesu Kapell) varemed, mida on hakatud restaureerima. Aare ongi peidetud kabeli lähedusse.
