Geocache Description:

A well camouflaged micro find awaits you at Pirates Cove: Where the ABC was born!

The Location: Old Bridge's Pirates Cove Waterfront Park represents Stage Two of the Waterfront Redevelopment project. It features a paved dog-walking trail loop, gazebo, two play grounds, basketball courts & a kayak/canoe launching ramp. The park's Eastern boundary is Whale Creek which is the border between Old Bridge & Cliffwood Beach as well as Monmouth & Middlesex Counties. The park is open from Dawn to Dusk, has ample parking & a Job Johnny for those in need. The park gets its name from the gold coins that were found on "Money Island" just off the coast. The island was excavated into oblivion at the turn of the century by treasure hunters.

The Story: Once upon a time, Musclemusher was courting Ericles & they set off in search of adventure. They arrived at the Laurence Harbor Waterfront Park and started walking South until they ran out of park. Then they just kept going! Back then (2004) this park had not yet been built but was just a marsh with a loop of dirt trails used by local teenagers and off-road yahoos. The couple continued to challenge each other's resolve as they progressed through the marsh - tip-toeing through the "trails", leaping between the reed-clumps and creating bridges out of driftwood when necessary. You see, they were enjoying each others company so much they didn't want the adventure to end. Eventually they hit the Whale Creek and surprised some fishermen on the far bank by bursting through the reeds, sweaty and dirty. The Whale was as good as a wall and here the adventure & indeed relationship came to a milestone. They had proved to each other that they were physically capable... but sane enough to not try to swim the river.

The Hide: This part of the boardwalk is 100 foot from the spot where the first ABC Adventure took place. It's a much nicer view from up here! You're looking for a specially camo'd cache just large enough for a log book and pencil stub. You might be able to spot it from below but you wont be able to grab it from there. Take a few minutes while here to enjoy the Raritan Bay and the numerous birds that flock to the cove. You can see ducks, geese, cormorants, herons, egrets, seagulls & even an occasional osprey. Red winged blackbirds, sparrows & goldfinches can also be spotted amongst the reeds. If you're looking for adventure try walking directly into Monmouth County from here. Be sure to tell of your adventure in your log!
