Geocache Description:

Go Postal, micro.

Among the more famous trees is a Monterey cypress that was planted in the 1850s by Harrison G. Blake who was the first member of the Oregon House of Representatives from Southern Curry County in 1874, postmaster of the Chetco Post Office, and builder of the home that houses the Chetco Valley Historical Museum.

Named an Oregon Heritage Tree, it can be found in front of the museum just off Highway 101 south of Harbor.

The tree, affectionately called Monty, at last measurement had a circumference of 34 feet, is at least 99 feet tall and it's about 156 years old. At one time it was thought to be the world's largest Monterey cypress, but a larger one was found along the California coast.
