Geocache Description:

This is another cache located at Laumeier County Park in the pond/pool area. The purpose of this cache is to show off this area of the park to newer cachers who have never been in this area.

To end some of the confusion, there are TWO parts to the pump assembly, but the connection piece is long gone. The main pump is located very near the shallow edge of the pool, while the pipe connection to the pump is missing and about 4 feet back from the actual pump, where the large "T" is. Both parts are very easy to spot when you are standing next to either part. The cache is now a magnetic key holder. The cache title should tell you where it is.

Walk around this area and you'll find lots of different remains from the farm that was located here.

From the Henry Shaw Ozark Corridor website:

The ruin of a swimming pool complex, once part of an estate named "Orchard Valley", which belonged to the Hedenkamp family, is also part of Laumeier. This area, in the northeast part of the park was once a cow pasture and stock pond. The Hedenkamps built a house nearby and converted the pond into a stone and concrete swimming pool. An article, "Old Pond Converted Into A Delightful Swimming Pool" published in the August 4, 1934 edition of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat highlighted the project. One can tell that this large stone and concrete swimming pool was spectacular in its time. During the early 1980's, artist Mary Miss built decking and trellises of treated lumber around pool to create her work titled "Orchard Valley."

From one of the Laumeier Park web pages:

"A walk in the park takes on a whole new meaning at Laumeier. At the bottom of the steps is one entrance to the nature/art trails. The initial art installation is called Triangular Bridge Over Water by Dan Graham. The steel and glass sculpture spans a gurgling creek amid Missouri bottom land forest.

What sculpture encountered after that depends entirely on what direction the hiker goes.

They might find themselves at the edge of an big dry swimming pool. It is known as Pool Complex, Orchard Valley by Mary Miss. Currently under partial renovation it is a sight in the middle of the woods.

Not only must the hiker keep watch for birds and other critters, they must be alert for art. Even a grassy hill might be more than it appears. Cromlech Glen by Beverly Pepper."
