Don't Run Off! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

chemed2: Houses going up all over this area, and getting to this cache requires bothering the new neighbors. Time to put an end to it. Thanks for a good "run" (off).

Geocache Description:

Camoed segment of PVC pipe hidden "in nature."

As the "Deer Crest" property moves inexorably toward development, roads have been graded and paved, sidewalks are in place, streets have been named and labelled with signage ... including "25 MPH" speed limit signs ... and there has been some landscaping of the "park strips." One of these days there may even be house construction!

As an essential step in preparing the area, the "Powers That Be" have taken precautions to protect the future neighborhood against that inevitable "100 year" deluge which would otherwise inevitably inundate it . Retention ponds have been excavated and "fine tuned," and "swales" have been enhanced and created to guide the mountain runoff "torrent" towards those reservoirs.

This cache is located near one of those "swales." While most of the run-off "gullies" are "natural" ... nature having demonstrated where that runoff water would go ... this one is the "creation" of wise "experts" who have "second guessed" nature.

Now this particular "swale" seems to be well constructed, complete with intermittent ridges of large rocks to "baffle" the flow. And it ends in a very impressive storm drain, which, no doubt, communicates directly with the retention pond below. A "swell swale" in every respect, it would seem.

I may be crazy (probably I am!), however, but it looks to me very unlikely that any significant flow of runoff water would ever reach this "swale." I think our cache is "safe" for that "100 years" ... and maybe a millenium or so after that. What do YOU think, Dear Cachers? I am "all wet" or what?

But regardless of it's other "advantages," this swale will certainly provide a "green belt" between homes up there ... and it has given us an ideal spot to place a cache.

At the time of placement, a "First To Find" geocoin is in the cache, along with a few other "goodies." This container can accept small travel items.

Congrats to Squib-C-kers for the FTF. Yup, a few hundred feet would do it. Might take a couple or three earthquakes.
