"Ohio Spirit Quest"

The Ohio Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Buckeye Pioneers. This series is inspired by and a continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by Six Dog Team. In just over three years, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over 550 caches, with the hiding teams growing as well. The Ohio Spirit Quest has begun to grown to over 40 in Ohio, with five current caching teams, three each with A Man and His Dog, one with a Couple and Their Dog... and one with A Woman and her Dog.
Over 1,000 cachers have logged over 20,000 finds. One cache machine found 111 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

Come with us now for a virtual tour of this old burial ground via this page, then go out and find the cache!

Welcome to West Barre Cemetery

York Twp, Fulton County, Ohio

OHIO SPIRIT QUEST #47

Barre None

The West Barre Cemetery is southeast of Wauseon, northeast of the junction of County Road C, County Road 13 and Township Road AC. The cemetery is located several yards off the road with access by a grass lane located behind a barn at the northeast corner of the intersection. (SW 1/4 Sec 31, T7N R7E.)

The burial ground is on land deeded to A.K. Augustus in 1834. The community of West Barre developed at the five corners and had a Baptist Church, United Brethren Church, general store, blacksmith shop, grange, ashery and a post office. A school house was located one-half mile south of the corners. The post office operated from 1851 until 1872 with Amos Taft as the post master. The cemetery, deeded to the township in 1843, is all that remains of the old village.

The cache container is small camo'ed Lock & Lock.
If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out.
