The Mangere Bridge is being duplicated to provide four lanes of
travel in each direction, double the current capacity, as well as
dedicated bus shoulders.
The project is budgeted at $230 million.
A low level bridge has been built to allow access to the work
sites; this will be removed once the new bridge is completed.
The present bridge was finally completed in 1983; construction
was severely delayed by industrial action.
The cache is a 1.2l systema, and should be visible if you are in
the right spot.
Photos of the construction are welcome, so progress can be
followed.
