FrenchHarp: It is with deep regret and sadness that I must archive Spooky Old Tree. Last Fall's rains and recent winds have pushed the tree over. I have watched it leaning for months and intended to archive it some time ago, but I have a sentimental attachment to it and wanted it to last. But I fear two things: 1) it is dead and will weaken to the point of falling on some unsuspecting geocacher who only wants the thrill of getting a smiley, or 2) soon TxDOT will archive the tree in their own way, due to reason #1.
It's the closest cache to my house, the first one my family found with me, though I did not log it. It was not the first I adopted, but nearly, and I have trimmed the undergrowth and watched the log entries grow with much fascination. I will soon find another good place in the neighborhood, but nothing nearly this cute.
So, farewell, Spooky Old Tree. Greet your cousin for me, the one Shel Silverstein wrote about......both of you are a big part of me......
