Although generally too cold for kayaking anyway, please use caution if trying to get this cache in April (and May?) If nesting waterfowl are observed at or adjacent to the cache, please do not disturb. You can note it as such and claim it as a find.
This is an Aqua cache at Shawnee State Park. Although the Google Map image below shows it in the water, the cache is on dry land. Whether you reach it without getting your feet wet will depend on your tolerance to poison ivy. An island cache in Colorado (on our favorites list) got us into kayaking, so this is placed to encourage others to try it.
A boat concession operates at the Marina parking coordinates on a seasonal basis. Canoes, kayaks, row boats and paddle boats are available for rent, or there is an adjacent launch if you have your own. Cache is within an easily doable distance from the marina. Once you get your own boat, there are several other good aqua caches in the region for you to try. Coordinates for a second launch area for private boats is also posted below.
Boat parking is at the shoreline under a shady tree for you to take a break from paddling. It is no longer reachable directly from boats. You will need to wade through the poison ivy on the island to reach the container.
Please recover and secure as found to avoid disturbance by local wildlife or muggles. For an extended trip, you can continue around either of the islands to the west or the south.
