Siwards Howe Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

This was originaly a small but as I had to re locate it slightly I have taken the opertunity to upgrade to a large, dropping of a new container.

Easy access from the parking co ordinates. But please be carefull as muggles are about.

Siwards Howe is an elivated water tower in York. Which was built in 1955/6. Designed to cope with the increased demand with the expansion of York (osbaldwick and badger hill).
The tower holds 1 million gallons of water, but is no longer in use but is used as storage by the local water board.

The water tower is designed to look like a castle hence its shape.

In 1977 an additional covered reservoir was constructed to the east of the tower. This holds 10 million gallons of water.
This reservoir looks like a large unused tennis court area to passers by.

The tower is the largest elivated water tower in europe and stands on one of the highest points in York.
