While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Due to lack of response from the owner, this cache is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

Sandvedparken er en del av parkdraget Gandsparkene "byens grønne lunge" som strekker seg 3,5 km langs vassdraget Storåna fra Sandnes sentrum til Stokkalandsvatnet i Ganddal.

Sandved Hagebruksskole anla parken på sin eiendom tidlig på 1900-tallet. Kommunen har leid parken fra 1932, men er nå eier. Parken slik vi kjenner den i dag ble anlagt omkring 1970 etter planer av landskapsarkitektene Fosså og Skjold, som vant arkitektkonkurransen om parkens utforming i 1962. Parken ble imidlertid flittig brukt allerede mens området tilhørte Statens Planteskole. Parken ble tildelt "Årets Grønne Park" av Norske Anleggsgartnere (NAML) i 1996. I Tusenårsparken står også kommunens tusenårstre.

Elven Storåna som opprinnelig het Gandeelven renner gjennom parken. Gandeelven ble beskrevet allerede i 1745 da amtmann Bendix Christian de Fine sendte rapporten om «Stavanger Amptes udførlige Beskrivelse» til kongen i København. Men av en eller annen grunn har Gandeelven, blitt endret til Storåna. Navnevalget er i grunnen litt merkelig fordi Storåna ikke er spesielt stor i forhold til de andre elvene i kommunen. Det gamle navnet, Gandeelven, hadde derimot tilknytning både til fjordnavnet Gandsfjorden, til bydelen Ganddal, hvor den kommer fra, og til det gamle Gand skipreide. Det er kanskje en ide å ta i bruk det gamle navnet igjen?......Gandselva?

Skal man inn på stien fra sentrum sykler/går man mot rådhuset som ligger i Jærveien. Gå inn i parken ved Skeianetunet (N 58° 50,830' E 005° 43,850'). Det eldste huset på Skeianetunet, som nå er fredet, ble oppført på 1770-tallet som heimehus på gården Skeiane. Senere har det vært skysstasjon og krambu i huset. Ved hovedhuset ligger også et fint eldhus. Sandvedhuset i empirestil ble bygget omkring 1840 på gården Sandved og senere flyttet til Skeianetunet. Presteboligen er en herskapelig trevilla fra ca. 1912 og er bygget i en karakteristisk blanding av sveitser- og jugendstil.

This beautiful and peaceful riverside trail, for easy walking or cycling, runs for 3.5 km southwards from Sandnes (next after Sandnes Sentrum) railway station to Ganddal railway station. There are several playgrounds, including the favourite Sandved Park, along the route. Sandvedparken park stretches along the Storåna river, from the courtyard Skeianetunet near the town hall to the Stokkelandsvatnet lake at Ganddal. The scenery along the trail is quite varied. An idyllic oasis of roads and paths with a rich animal and bird-life. There are areas to relax, picnic and barbeque beside the small river. It has an exciting playground and is a beautiful spot where children will be happy for hours. This is an excellent outing for children on their own bikes who can take breaks at the playgrounds en route.

The trail start at Skeianetunet (N 58° 50,830' E 005° 43,850').
In the 17th century, Skeiane famstead was a croft under Øvre Austrått. Gradually Skeiane developed into a centre for the Høyland area of Sandnes, with a municipal administration, bank and other facilities. Today there are three buildings at the farmstead. The oldest of these, deemed worthy of preservation, was built around 1770 as the main dwelling on the farm. Later, it served as a coach station, and there has also been a shop of sorts in this building. Adjacent to the main house is a well-preserved cookhouse. The Sandved house was built around 1840 in French Empire style. It was moved from the Sandved farm to Skeiane and is today used for art exhibitions. The vicarage is a stately villa erected around 1912, in a characteristic blend of Swiss-style and Jugend.
