This creek was named after an early french settler to the
Sacandaga Valley by the name of Joseph De Golyer
No major bushwacking for this one. There is parking on the lake
side right by the bridge and only 20 feet from the cache. Growing
up in Edinburg I heard the story of Peter Dubuc breaking the
world's record for Northern Pike with a Monster 46lb. 2oz. Pike. I
was always told that it was off of this creek that he had caught
the pike. My recent web surfing has told me more about it. The
actual location would have been between this creek and Hans Creek.
At that time the lake was a mere 10 years old and the record stood
for quite some time. Although it is no longer the reigning world's
record it is still the biggest northern ever caught, on record in
the USA. This is not the only bit of history here. There is a
historical sign across the road to fill you in on more of the local
history in this area. Definately a nice spot for fishing and
although this place could use some C.I.T.O. I couldn't find a
decent spot big enough to hide a larger cache. The cache is a Decon
container. I do encourage everyone to bring along a shopping bag
and do a little C.I.T.O. on your way out. It will be greatly
appreciated by all. I personally removed 2 bags of trash today.
This should be an easy and quick cache and dash. Good Luck and
Happy Cachin'. Swizzle & family
