WALTER BENJAMIN, filòsof alemany de família jueva (Berlin 1892 - Portbou 1940) és un pensador clau del segle XX. Trobà la mort a Portbou fugint del nazisme després d’una penosa marxa per la muntanya des de Banyuls de la Marenda.
La seva obra, d’una profunda i avançada lucidesa està dedicada a l’art i a la literatura. Vinculat amb el grup de filòsofs de l’Escola de Frankfurt ( Adorno, Marcuse...) i divulgat amb retard i fragmentàriament encara avui. La seva presència en el món de les idees està assegurada per damunt de modes

WALTER BENJAMIN, German philosopher of Jewish family (Berlin 1892 - Portbou 1940) is a most thinker of the 20th century. In spite of the fact that he died in Portbou after crossing Banyuls mountain whilst escaping from the Nazis. He left behind penetrating and advances studies of great clarity dedicated of art and literature. He was linked to the Frankfurt School of philosophers (Adorno, Marcuse...) His work has only come to light after many years and it is in a fragmented form but it is still outstanding. His place in the world of ideas of our times seems to be assured
