Torre de los Caballos y Ermita de la Purísima Concepción S. XVI-XX

La Torre de los Caballos, en Bolnuevo, se construyó en el s. XVI, algunos años después que la torre de la Cumbre del Puerto de Mazarrón, y con idéntica finalidad: el control de esa parte del litoral ante posibles incursiones de piratería berberisca, que constituían para la población una preocupación constante. Su existencia aseguraba, por tanto, la tranquilidad de las faenas pesqueras de la ensenada. En siglos posteriores, la torre sufrió diversas remodelaciones y arreglos, algunos dentro de la programación de restauraciones que se realizaron en las torres del litoral, durante el s. XVIII. A mediados del s. XX, se le añadió una ermita dedicada a la Purísima Concepción, en conmemoración del conocido Milagro de la Virgen, aunque antes de la construcción de la ermita ya tuvo algunas antiguas edificaciones anexas. La torre está declarada Bien de Interés Cultural.



TOWER OF THE HORSES AND LA PURÍSIMA CONCEPCIÓN CHAPEL 16th-20th

CENTURIES Tower of the Horses, in Bolnuevo, was built in the 16th century, some years after the Tower of La Cumbre at Port of Mazarrón. It was built for the same purpose as the other tower: to control this part of the littoral zone from possible Berber pirate invasions, which were a constant concern for the settlement. Its existence ensured calm in fishing the inlet. In later centuries, the tower went through restorations and repairs, some within the restoration program performed on coastal towers during the 18th century. In the midtwentieth century a chapel was added, dedicated to the Most Pure Conception in commemoration of the mentioned Miracle of the Virgin, although before this chapel was erected there were already some ancient buildings also on the site. The tower has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
