Geocache Description:

This cache is placed on a very prominent local feature which gives wonderful views for miles around. On a clear day you can even see boats out to sea at Porthcawl.

We placed this cache to enable people to take advantage of the wonderful view. In my youth this spoil tip was actually two tips, they were landscaped into one not long after the terrible Aberfan disaster. Although we called it the Tor, we think it actually has more in common with Silbury Hill in Avebury as they are both man made and they bear a remarkable resemblance. We do not know if this was intentional.

The cache itself is a tupperwar box containing the usual stuff and a small FTF prize. This is such a prominent local feature you should have no difficulty finding it. There is a rough path going up the hill which is a bit steep in parts, although my 5 year old manages it easily. On the way up keep an eye out for Merthyr Diamonds (a type of quartz crystal, a good example of which can be found in the Swansea Maritime Museum which was found on this very tip). Hope you enjoy the views as much as we do.

There is alternative parking near to the cache along the dirt track which is heavily potholed.

After a previous log saying that it was wet, we have now changed this to a micro.

Please be aware that it has come to our notice that there is an unofficial cache close by that we believe people are finding instead of ours. The container is a long thin camouflaged container that once contained vitamin tablets, similar to the type of container cigars come in.
