Geocache Description:

This geocache is along side the road on which White Swan Park once stood beside. The park is long gone and this small stretch of road now lay abandoned as it was cut via the new highway. The road was once a busy two lane road with a double yellow line but now it has become well overgrown that no cars can quite fit down it anymore.

This location will likely bring back many memories for local residences. Please take a moment and tell us about your memories of this park in your logs.

White Swan Park was a small amusement park that operated from 1955-1989. It was located on PA 60 (Parkway West) at McClaren Rd., just 1 1/2 miles south of the old Greater Pittsburgh International Airport. A one-midway park, the entranceway consisted of a pavilion of midway games which separated the main park to its left from the Kiddieland area on its right. The park also included a Skee-Ball building and miniature golf course.

With construction of the new Pittsburgh International Airport underway in the late 80's, a new highway was needed for access. After the park's 1989 season, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation bought the park. Dismantling of the park began the following year. The last item from the park to be removed was the Giant Slide.

DO NOT PARK ALONG THE HIGHWAY TO GET TO THIS GEOCACHE

DO NOT PARK IN THE CEMETERY TO GET TO THIS GEOCACHE.

There is little room down this road past the parking coordinates. It is advised that you park your car at the parking coordinates and walk. If you attempt this cache with a motorcycle or bicycle, you will be able to cruise up to this cache with little problem as the road is still fairly smooth. I parked my car at N40 28.241 W80 12.338

I'm going to want to upgrade this cache to a regular ammo can in the future. I'm concerned that there might be some effort to clean up eventually since there is some debris so I kept this container rather small as so it wouldn't go missing anytime soon.
