Since first having searched for and found cache GC1EKQ3, we have
always been intrigued with the purported location of Sir Tristan's
glorious castle, rumored to be located across the shining waters.
So, we decided to set out to see if we could indeed find his
castle, but alas we could not. All we found was an island and, upon
this island, a mysterious metal box marked "GEOCACHE." Within this
box we found a journal that told the sad but true story of what
really happened to Sir Tristan.
--
As it turns out, Sir Tristan had wanted to build his castle
originally on the eastern bank of White Lake. Cache GC1EKQ3 does in
fact mark the original location of where the castle was supposed to
go, near where only a carriage building can be seen today.
But after having chosen that place, Sir Tristan received so many
visitors wanting to sign something called a "cache log" and looking
for something called "swag" that he was was getting frustrated with
the lack of privacy. He contacted a realtor from Century 2.1 who
assured him that there was a wonderful island on which to build his
castle, surrounded by water that was difficult to navigate and that
would deter any visitors.
So, Sir Tristan set out from shore with the realtor to the island,
whereupon all he found was sucking muck and swampgrass. "Trust me,
it's wonderful just a little further in," said the realtor. "You
head in and look around, and I'll wait here."
Well, you can pretty much guess the rest of the story. Not only
did Sir Tristan not find solid ground upon which to build his
splendid castle, but he had a long swim back to shore! Fortunately
the realtor was apprehended and summarily beheaded, so all's well
that ends well.
We kept Sir Tristan's journal for safekeeping, but added a new
journal of our own to the box he left behind, along with a few
trinkets for those who seek his abandoned estate.

A word about the search:
-You will need a boat to approach this cache, and most likely a
canoe or kayak. It is a "no wake" lake and very shallow as you
approach the island.
-There is no beach or solid landing area. It will take some
experimenting at your part. There is a lot of swamp and sucking
muck.
-You are looking for a regular, metal ammo can, pretty much in the
open, on the highest and driest ground we could find.
- Wisconsin has a LOOOOOONG duck hunting season. Check the DNR
website at: http://www.dnr.state.wi.us for exact dates. Watch for
hunters, or wait until hunting season is over. --

On the way from Tristan's Bay.
Here looks like a good spot to land.
The golden ferns mark the location of the fabled estate.
