Tour of Skjolden – for English text see further down!
Denne cachen tar deg med på ein liten rundtur på Skjolden. Det anbefalast at du parkerer ved Fjordstova (N61 29.473 E7 35.948 – dei oppgitte koordinatane for cachen), og tar rundtur til fots – det er ikkje langt!
Fjordstova (pkt 1 N61 29.456 E7 35.970)
Fjordstova er bygdas samlingsstad. Her finn du blant anna kafe, symjebasseng, bibliotek, turistinformasjon og klatrevegg. Oppgåve du skal løyse finn du svar på ved turbinhjulet utanfor. ”Gåve til Fjordstova 10.sept….” Siste siffer i dette årstalet = D.
For neste post går du over brua til badestrondi.
Badestrondi (pkt 2 N61 29.538 E7 35.855)
På fine sommardagar er det fullt av folk her og det er ein fin stad for å slappe av. Badevatnet er nok ikkje det varmaste, men prøv gjerne ein dukkert! Langs gangvegen står det nokre enkle bjørketre. Kor mange enkle små-bjørker finn du her? Svaret = G
For neste oppgåve må du over brua att, og gå gangvegen langs elva ved Fjordstova. Då kjem du til hotellhagen.
Hotellhagen (pkt 3 N61 29.425 E7 35.907)
Her har du flott utsikt ut fjorden, og i stranda her starta symjeturen til Lewis Gordon Pugh, som sommaren 2004 symde ut heile Sognefjorden (204km på 21 dagar). For å finne svaret her må du studere lysthuset i hotellhagen. Kor mange vegger/sider har lysthuset? Dette antalet pluss 1 = B
For å kome til neste punkt føl du gangvegen vidare.
Storahuset og Klingenberghuset (pkt 4 N61 29.399 E7 36.032)
Dei to husa langs vegen ovanfor deg har også interessante historiar. Huset nærast sentrum, Klingenberghuset, vart bygd i 1907. Vinteren 1913/14 budde Ludvig Wittgenstein i dette huset (sjå også Wittgenstein@Skjolden). Nabohuset vert kalla Storahuset. Her budde Halvard Drægni, og på området bakanfor låg saftfabrikken. Oppgava du skal løysa er knytta til plena mellom parkeringsplassen du står på og vegen forbi husa – kor mange lys-stolpar er det her? Dette antalet minus 1 = H
Denne oppgava kan vere litt vanskeleg, hugs at du ikkje skal telje lysstolpane langs vegen - men kun den 
som er på plena!
Neste stopp er den gamle bensinstasjonen, men på vegen dit skal du løyse ei oppgåve.
Gamla brui (pkt 5 N61 29.369 E7 36.101)
Denne gamle brua vart bygd i 1859, og hovudvegen gjekk her fram til den nye brua vart bygd på 60-talet. Våren 2010 er brua gjort om til gangbru. Oppgava du skal løyse er knytta til søylene under brua. Kor mange søyler er mura av stein? Svaret = A. For å finne F må du telje alle søylene og trekke frå 1. Altså F = søyler - 1.
Og no går du vidare til den gamle bensinstasjonen.
Den gamle bensinstasjonen (pkt 6 N61 29.400 E7 36.233)
Denne stasjonen er frå 50-talet og er freda. Først var dette ein BP-stasjon, og sidan vart det Norol. For å finne svar på oppgåva må du finne ut kor mange søyler som held taket over pumpene oppe. Antal søyler = J. For å finne E, E = antal søyler*2 + 1.
Dersom stasjonen er tildekka kan det vere til god hjelp å sjekke galleribildene på cachesida....
No går turen vidare til Bryggjehuset og nye kaien. Føl vegen tilbake langs elva.
Bryggjehuset og nye kaien (pkt 7 N61 29.269 E7 35.982)
Bryggjehuset var tidlegare landhandel og dampskipsekspedisjon. Landhandelen var i drift fram til 1924, og dampskipsekspedisjonen vart nedlagd i 1962. No er huset restaurert og inneheld pub. Nye kaien vart bygd i forbindelse med kraftutbygginga i Fortun. Du må telje vindauge på sørveggen av Bryggjehuset. Antal vindauge første etasje = C. Antal vindauge i andre etasje minus antal vindauge første etasje = I. Og hugs at det berre er sørveggen du skal sjå på!

This cache will take you on a short walk through the village of Skjolden. You are recommended to park at Fjordstova (N61 29.473 E7 35.948), and make the roundtrip by foot.
Fjordstova (pkt 1 N61 29.456 E7 35.970)
Fjordstova is the centre of the activities in the village. In the building you will find a cafeteria, a swimming pool, the library, a climbing wall and the tourist information. The task for you to solve is connected to the turbine wheel located outside. On the sign it says ”Gåve til Fjordstova 10.sept….” Last digit in this year = D.
To find the next clue you cross the river to the beach.
The Beach (pkt 2 N61 29.538 E7 35.855)
On nice summer days this area is really crowded! This is a nice place to relax and perhaps swim in the end of Sognefjorden? The water might be a bit cold, but you should try it! Along the path some small, single birches are standing. How many single birches? The answer = G.
To get the next clue, you cross back over the river and walk along the river and Fjordstova.
The Hotel garden (pkt 3 N61 29.425 E7 35.907)
From this spot you have a beautiful view of the fjord! Down at the seaside here started Lewis Gordon Pugh to swim out the entire Sognefjord in 2004! He used 21 days on the 204km long trip. Look at the small house in the garden; how many walls/sides does the house have? This number added 1 = B.
To get to next spot you just follow the path.
Storahuset (“the big house”) and Klingenberghuset (pkt 4 N61 29.399 E7 36.032)
The two houses along the road above you have some interesting stories. The house closest to the centrum, Klingenberghuset, was build in 1907. During the winter 1913/14 Ludvig Wittgenstein stayed in this house (see also Wittgenstein@Skjolden). The neighbouring house is called Storahuset, meaning “The big house”. In this house Halvard Drægni lived, and in the back of the house he had a jam and juice factory. The task for you to solve is related to the lawn between the parking area you are standing at and the road in front of the houses. How many light posts inside this lawn? This number subtracted 1 = H.
This question can be a bit tricky....You should not count the light posts along the road, only the one inside the lawn....
The next stop is the old petrol station, but on the way to it you have to solve one task!
The old bridge (pkt 5 N61 29.369 E7 36.101)
This old bridge was built in 1859, and was the main road until the new bridge was built in the 60ties. During spring 2010 the bridge is only open for walking. Your task is related to the pillars under the bridge. How many old pillars built in stone? This number = A. To find F you need to count all pillars and subtract 1. This means, F = pillars - 1.
Your next stop is the old petrol station. Just follow the road.
The old petrol station (pkt 6 N61 29.400 E7 36.233)
This old petrol station is from the 50thies and the station is now scheduled as a monument from that period. First this was a BP station, and later a Norol station. To find the answer here you have to find out how many pillars are holding the roof over the pumps. Number of pillars = J. To find E, E = number of pillars*2 +1.
If the station is covered, the gallery images might help you...or you can find a horse and count number of legs...
The walk continues back along the river to Bryggjehuset and the new quay.
Bryggjehuset and the new quay (pkt 7 N61 29.269 E7 35.982)
“Bryggjehuset” was earlier a grocers shop and storehouse for goods sent by steamers from Bergen. The grocers shop closed in 1924, and the goods expedition closed in 1962. The house is now restored and you find a pub here. The new quay was built in the 50thies in relation to the construction of the hydro power plant in Fortun. You have to count the number of windows on the south wall of the house (Bryggjehuset). Number of windows ground floor = C. Number of windows second floor subtracted number of windows ground floor = I. Remember only the south wall!
In correct English the notation 'second floor' should probably be 'first floor', but we have changed it and hopefully everyone will understand!
