Geocache Description:

Welcome to one really cool site!

If you like caches in places requiring a long walk or very difficult terrain, this isn't it. But if you prefer one with some history or an interesting story, this one gives you both. You could just go and find the cache, but the fun will be checking out this place that many travel quite far to see.

It's not a requirement to log this cache, but after looking at the structure at GZ and the painting there, stop in to the building nearby and check out the artwork there. If you're lucky, you'll meet the artist and be sure to ask him about the story of the Ice House.

EDIT: The store isn't open any more and sadly the owner won't be present to share with you his many stories about the Ice House the town and the surrounding region. But here's a little info to give you some background: the town of Ida came into existence in 1897 when the first post office became part of the then Chandler store at which time the town was named Ida, after the daughter of J.R. Chandler. Ida became an incorporated village in the late 1960’s. The Ice House did indeed serve as both an ice house and a jail.

The cache is a either a large micro or a small; it starts out with only a log sheet but it could hold very small items such as geocoins. Please bring your own writing utensil.
