This ford is at a division in the road taking you either to Port Cornaa or to Maughold. The cache is a small bison conatiner containing a rolled up log book. There is a parking available at the bottom of the public footpath.
A ford is a place in a watercourse (most commonly a stream or river) that is shallow enough to be crossed in a vehicle.
This cache is part of a series of caches, taking you to some of the fords that can be driven through on the Island.
The Cornaa river starts below North Barrule and runs through Ballaglass Glen at Maughold and into the sea at Port Cornaa.
This ford, at a division in the road taking you either to Port Cornaa or to Maughold, takes you over the stream which winds down to Cornaa beach, a small pebbled cove on the east of the island, just below Maughold from where a Swedish Entrepeneur had planned to export gun-powder. His business however failed at the first hurdle as he didn’t think to mention his intentions to the Manx Government – needless to say his plans then went up in smoke!
Also in this area is Cashtal yn Ard (The Castle of the Heights), one of three Neolithic tombs dating from around 2000 BC, and Ballaglass Glen.
The cache is a small bison container containing a rolled up log book and (very) small pencil.
There is a parking available at the bottom of the public footpath that will fit 1 or 2 cars at the most on the Maughold side of the ford.
As these caches were set in the summer when water levels were low please take care in the winter months when levels will be higher. Also, please take care at each of the cache sites as a number of them are on single track roads.
