Geocache Description:

This ford is situated on a hairpin bend along a very narrow, twisting road leading from Axenfell to Laxey. The cache is a small plastic container with enough room for some small swaps (including a mini radio with headphones for the FTF), a log book and pencil. Parking is available at a small layby some 50 metres past the ford on the Laxey side.

A ford is a place in a watercourse (most commonly a stream or river) that is shallow enough to be crossed in a vehicle.

This cache is part of a series of caches, taking you to some of the fords that can be driven through on the Island.

This ford is situated on a hairpin bend along a very narrow, twisting road leading from Axenfell to Laxey.

Listen carefully for the ‘Dooinney-Oie’ when attempting this cache as it is widely reported that he lives in a nearby cave. If you hear any faint cries of ‘How-La! How-La!’ then it’s time to leave as there’s a storm coming! If you’ve got time on your hands you could also look for ‘Nyker’, a water goblin that resides in Nikkesen’s pool that can be found in the small stream flowing down from Cronk y Varre through the glen between Ballacowin and Ballaquine.

The cache is a small plastic container with enough room for some small swaps (including a mini radio with headphones for the FTF), a log book and pencil.

Parking is available at a small layby some 50 metres past the ford on the Laxey side.

As these caches were set in the summer when water levels were low please take care in the winter months when levels will be higher. Also, please take care at each of the cache sites as a number of them are on single track roads.
