The Crooked River #5 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

W8TTS: Well, this series has had a real good run of 4 years. And, I want to give a big thanks to all who searched for these. My hiking buddy, Madison J. Dog, do to a hip problem, can no longer go on the hikes to take care of these. Thereby taking some of the fun out of them. So, I'm going to Archive them, and open up the area so that others can place cache along this great river, and the hike and bike trail that follows it.

Geocache Description:

The Crooked River at the crooked bridge.

(or, what a bunch of lumber!)

This cache, a mirco, is on Portage Hike & Bike Trail in Fuller Park on or near the northeast end of the crooked bridge. Bring your own writing stick.

The terrain is 1.5 because the trail isn't easily handicapped
accessible. But, is paved.

The Cuyahoga River, which in the Iroquois language means
"crooked river" and is most famous for being "the river which
caught fire", begins it's winding journey in Geauga County and 85
miles later empties into Lake Erie at Cleveland, about 35 miles
west of it's headwaters.

This winding journey takes the river south towards Kent,
Munroe Falls, and then to Akron, where it turns sharply North and
flows through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It then flows
through the southern suburbs of Cleveland and finally at Cleveland
it empties into Lake Erie.

Kent is located where State Routes 59 and 43 cross, and Rt.
59 crosses the Cuyahoga River, and the river is flowing southwest
at this point. There are a number of other caches in the area along
the river. (Look here).

The best parking spot is at Fred Fuller Park just south of Rt. 59 on Middlebury Rd.
See the parking coordinates.
Look for a marker along the road just north of the parking coordinates that points to the Portage Hike & Bike Trail. It's a gravel trail leading down hill.

Congratulations to Dash-ers for the First To Find!
