Baldwin Township owns two forties here. You're searching for an ammo box. The area was logged a couple years ago so there are many tops lying around making walking a challenge although the terrain is generally flat.
Yup, the write-up for these two "forties" caches are exactly the same.
The two track at the parking coordinates goes through the western forty and leads to several camps beyond. You'll note the no cutting sign on the tree. The township uses the downed wood here to heat their township hall/fire hall so no other cutting is allowed. The DNR deeded the property to the township with the stipulation that it be used as timber/forest land.
There were lots of leeks blooming when we placed this cache and we also saw several frogs. There are also plenty of deer, grouse, turkeys, etc.
You may note a "cabin" nearby. Please do not enter it because it has become dilapidated. It will be demolished in the future. It was erected in the 1970's as part of a DNR Green Thumb project and was used for some years. However, a large limb went through the roof and the elements have caused further damage over the years.
The coordinates may be a few feet off. Each time we returned to take an average we came up with slightly different coordinates. However, you will be in the neighborhood and may just need to widen your search.
The area is probably wet during spring and without a doubt will harbor many ticks. You'll need bug spray in summer.
Please be aware, this area is used for hunting. We may disable the cache during gun deer season. However, we ask that you postpone caching here if it appears hunters are present during any of the hunting seasons.
