Geocache Description:

This is as high as you can legally get in Delta county (at least back in 2009 when this cache was created). At 11,396 feet, Mount Lamborn is the county high point.

The summit provides spectacular 360° views spanning more than a hundred miles. To the west you can see the flat expanse of the Uncompaghre Plateau stretching out to Mount Peale and Mount Tukuhnikivatz in the La Sal mountains. To the south you can see the San Juans. At the western most edge of the San Juans, solitary Lone Cone earns its name. To the north you can see the Grand Mesa capped by Crater Peak and Leon Peak, the Raggeds Wilderness, the high peaks of the Elk Range, and the Maroon-Snowmass wilderness. To the east you can look out on the vast expanse of the West Elk Wilderness. Looking below to the North-West lies Paonia. It's less than 6 miles away; but, an impressive 5,700 feet down.

The cache is not over the edge.

However you choose to approach the cache, you should avoid the rough access roads when they are wet.

When we placed the cache in July, we were treated to a multitude of wildflowers. Another rewarding time to visit this cache will be in the autumn because of the abundance of aspen trees.
