Samuel Cross Traditional Cache

Here you will find the marker for Samuel Cross, who died suddenly at this place on June 6, 1854. He was 61 years of age.
This is in the spirit of WIDE GLIDE, who put me up to this cache. When he was traveling the area in search of a cache I placed near by, he spotted this marker (leave it to the master of finding these obscure kinds of things, that most of us would just drive right by, right?). Anyway, I checked out this spot from these exact coord’s that he sent me and thought (with a nod of my head), hhhmmm… you’re right! It’s even like a mini cemetery…right up my alley! This IS a good place for a cache (wink).
Now I head back home to get a cache container and log ready. But wait! (heart skips a beat) Suddenly, I felt like the weight of geocaching was on my shoulders! I couldn’t just place a park and grab in a spot suggested to me by such a famous cacher! (panic sets in) My no! That wouldn’t do. So… I thought, and plotted…and finally got one of the “AHA” moments he always mentions (evil grin). Cache on! Muahahahaha!
So, in honor of WIDE GLIDE, I put a tricky twist on the roadside park & grab. This one is hopefully a little more difficult and requires some thought…and an “AHA” moment to find. Camo is all natural…and will require you to replace accurately. You may not be able to replace as quickly as you retrieve. Please use care when replacing and take the extra moment to make sure it’s correct so you don’t ruin the experience for the next cacher.
The cache is a nano hidden no more than a few feet from Samuel’s marker. Do not cross the fence, or touch it for that matter. The fence is electric, so please be cautious if you are caching with little ones. Remember to leave the area as you found it. I’ve gone to some difficult caches and in disappointment, found the area all dug up and ransacked. There is no need to dig or destroy the surroundings. If you don’t get an AHA moment leave the area just as you found it and think some more. After all, this is a place where a man was laid to rest. Be respectful.
