Hawaiian Royalty

The Palace

The cache is NOT at the coordinates listed above.
'Iolani Palace grounds are closed from 11pm to 6am

Aloha and welcome to my first Wherigo cache. It is a simple one designed to take you to just a few of the sites located around 'Iolani Palace.

What is a Wherigo you say?

According to Groundspeak:
"Wherigo is a toolset for creating and playing GPS-enabled adventures in the real world. By integrating a Wherigo experience, called a cartridge, with finding a cache, the geocaching hunt can be an even richer experience. Among other uses, Wherigo allows geocachers to interact with physical and virtual elements such as objects or characters while still finding a physical geocache container. A Wherigo-enabled GPS device is required to play a cartridge. Learn more at Wherigo.com."
According to Wherigo.com:
"A Wherigo cache uses the Wherigo cartridge format (i.e. use of zones, characters and/or items) to lead the player to a physical geocache. If a Wherigo cartridge is used as a requirement to find a geocache, it is considered a Wherigo cache regardless of whether it has a puzzle or multi-cache component."
So what do you need to play a Wherigo cache?
  1. A Wherigo capable device. Currently these are the Garmin Colorado, Garmin Oregon, or a GPS-enabled Pocket PC with the Wherigo player installed (update - now on the iPhone as PiGo)
  2. The downloaded cartridge located here: Hawaiian Royalty
  3. Loose change for the parking meter (10 minutes per $0.25)
How you should log a Wherigo cache:
  1. Play the Wherigo cartridge from start to finish from the staging area to the cache site.
  2. Sign the cache log.
  3. Log your find on Geocaching.com.
  4. Log the completed cartridge on Wherigo.com.
  5. If you played along with someone else, then that person should log the completed cartridge and mention in his/her log on geocaching.com that you played with him/her.
Now for the cache:
The cache is a magnetic key case. It is listed as a 2 terrain because you have to cross a couple of very busy streets (please be careful). You do not need to go in 'Iolani Palace or any other building nearby. 'Iolani Palace grounds are closed from 11pm to 6am. I recommend, even though you will be close to the Queen, do the Kings first. You'll know why at the end. When you complete the cartridge the final coordinates will be displayed along with both a hint and a photo hint (look for the red circle). Please remember to write these coordinates down before you click "ok". They will disappear and so far I don't know how to make them accessible again. I learned this the hard way while doing one on the mainland.
