Geocache Description:


The cache is situated in the center of Tallinn in Tiigiveski park. The park was built on former mill pond area on river of Härjapea. The gristmill was built in 13th century and it belonged to nunnery. In 1354 city council bought the mill and gave it to miller for rent. Later city council sold the mill to tanner who made workshop there. In 1716 sawmill was built there. City got the mill back in 1828 and until 1843 it was used by Johann Wilhelm Donat who was paper manufacturer. Until 1886 it was used again as gristmill and later as warehouse. Mill pond changed to quagmire. It was filled in 1910-1911 and then the park was build there. In 1913 was built there first football station (Kalevi stadium) in Estonia where was Estonian first international friendly against Sweden in 1921. In 1962 was built near to the stadium and park Kalev sporsthall which was used mainly for basketball and volleyball matches. Later was built there athletics hall and tennis courts nearby.

Today this place is probably the most athletic area in Tallinn. Near to the cache is Stadium of Kalev for athletics and football, Sport Hall of Tallinn for inner athletics and Sport Hall of Kalev for basketball, volleyball or other mostly team sport activities. Sportlane is estonian word to describe athletes and the cache is dedicated for sport.
