Number two in the Mount Hood View series.
I have decided to do a M.H.V. series of caches and this will be the first one of 10 M.H.V. caches.
Each cache page will have one small factoid about Mt Hood.
What is a M.H.V. cache? Well, to put it bluntly, its a place where you can be and see Mt Hood.
Yes, it's nothing special to see Mt Hood from almost anywhere in Portland but the point is to draw the attention to the fact that we are so lucky to have a beautiful view no matter where we are in Portland.
The goal is to pick places that aren't spectacular. Nothing special about them other than the view of the mountain.
Mt Hood fun fact:
Mt. Hood is the second most climbed mountain in the world, second only to Japan’s holy Mt. Fujiyama. The largest party to ever climb Mt. Hood was 411 people on August 9, 1936.
From the cache location you can see Mt Hood over the runway of the Portland International Airport.
Many people stop at locations all around the airport to watch airplanes take off and land. From this vantage point, however, if an airplane lost any equipment on take-off it could land right here. Some have rumored to find nuts and bolts that have come off planes but its just a rumor.
What you will find, if you are lucky, is a snake. When I was placing the cache, I saw a few. Don't worry, they are harmless garter snakes.
The cache is a micro. Nothing special there. The cache contains only a log so please bring a pen.
