How do you spell relief after a day's ride on a courduroy road? Simply stated, try the Gooding House and Tavern! First of all, it's the only public house on the 20 mile stretch from Delaware to Worthington. This well built tavern-inn maintained a room for "medicinal anointing", a dining area to satisfy one's hunger, and many rooms to "restore one's strength through rest" in preparation for the next day's journey either south to Worthington or north to Delaware.
This micro cache is planted near this stately tavern - road house to remind our contemporaries that movement within the state was not always at 65 miles per hour. The 30 minute drive from Delaware to Worthington once took two days in good weather, if it was attempted at all. Enjoy the 1830's architecture and if you let your imagination run loose, you just might see a team of horses pulling a buckboard and passengers over that bumpy log road.
