Geocache Description:

Parking spaces can be found in the one way street through Blue Town.

Version 2 – The 1st Dockyard Church cache went missing within weeks therefore the cache has been moved a little way from the church and to a 35mm so please bring your own pen.

Dockyard Church, sometimes known as Garrison Church was established on this site in 1828 by architect GL Taylor. Church parade was once compulsory in HM Forces, before the church was built services were conducted on board a hulk tied up in the dock.
Blue Town’s parish church St Paul’s was demolished in 1962, the congregation joined the Dockyard church which then became St Paul’s Dockyard church.
Dockyard Church has been allowed to fall into disrepair and has been on the SAVE Buildings at Risk Register for several years. A fire in 2001 reduced it to a shell and, recently, an application was approved for a residential conversion which now looks unlikely to happen. In the meantime this magnificent Grade II* building, continues to decay.

The church is just one part of Sheerness docks which has a very long and interesting history, plaques can be found on stands and on blue plates along the dockyard wall giving information.

If anybody would like to expand this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.

There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list
