Geocache Description:

The Linton Long Walk is for the die-hard hikers out there. A series of 9 caches on a 7 mile walk which explores part of the Weald, looking down to it for some of the time from the brow of the Quarry Hills.

The route is wonderful at blossom time when the orchards of the western section become a pink fairyland.

The eastern section passes through the parkland of Linton and Boughton Monchelsea, where the great house is set in a deer park.

The walk passes very close to Church Micros Nos 803 and 804 Linton Church and Boughton Monchelsea Church.

It is suggested that at least 4 hours are set aside to complete the whole walk. This leg could be completed in less than 1/2 if undertaken by itself.

The circular trail is mostly along footpaths and quiet country lanes, some of which cross the busy A229 or pass rivers and lakes, so keep an eye on your dogs and children. In summer long sleeved shirts and long trousers are recommended as brambles and nettles in places might be quite high.

Many of the paths can be quite muddy even in the summer so good boots are recommended.

Explorer maps 136 and 148 will help with navigation, however additional waypoints are provided below to help guide you along the route.

You are looking for a 35mm film canister containing pencil and log book. The pencil is (necessarily) very short, so it's best to take your own writing implement. Make a note of the additional clue in the logbook which will guide you to the Bonus Cache. Good luck

Parking is recommended at the village car park at Linton Church. On 364 days of the year it is possible to walk directly into the churchyard from the car park, but on the first Monday in February the gate is locked to prevent the path from becoming a right of way.

Start this leg at Waypoint H. Turn right here on to the footpath which runs along by the side of Elm Corner Cottage. There are views to the left as the path follows a field edge above a picturesque farm with an oast house. It then enters the first of a succession of orchards.

Cross over the track in the middle of an orchard and turn left on to the track at the top. A steep climb follows before the path eventually reaches the Greensand Way at the top of another orchard. Finish this leg at Waypoint J.

This cache does not contain a pencil, so bring something to write with.
