Geocache Description:

The cache is located on the property at Mt. Zion Episcopal Church in Hedgesville, West Virginia.

Mt. Zion Episcopal Church is the oldest building in Hedgesville. It has a rich history dating back to 1740s. A survey as early as 1752 showed the Hedges Meeting House sitting on two and half acres at its current location. Back in the days when George Washington was surveying for Lord Fairfax, he worshipped in the log cabin (built 1740) that was the forerunner of today's Mt. Zion. As to whether he slept here, (during service) is up for debate.

The current brick structure was erected in 1818-1819. I was given a tour of this well preserved building that is on the National Historic Regester. It is beautiful both inside and out.

The back of the bulletin says, "Mt. Zion Church today as in it's nearly 300 years of service to our Lord stands beside the road to welcome not only parish family, but also the traveler passing by this place. The prayers and thanksgivings of generations of Christians have ascended to heaven from this place. Go in God's peace to love and serve the Lord."

Cache is available between 8 am and dusk, but please respect the church's worship meeting times and do not seek the cache on Sunday mornings or during other service activities. Cache is placed with permission of the church. This is an easy multi-cache.
