About two miles Northwest of Nickelsville, on the road to Twin Springs, stands this once vital community landmark. Valentine Bush and his wife, Nancy Gose Bush, moved from Russell County in the late 1800s and bought the land where the historic mill was built. The first mill was a log structure which either existed when the Bushes arrived or they built shortly after purchasing the land. The present mill was built by Valentine Bush between 1896 and 1897, with the assistance of his sons, Stephen and William Bush and W.T. Frazier. At the time the mill was built, Valentine Bush was 88 years old. For many years it served as the bustling center of the community, providing residents with corn meal and flower for their tables and feed for their livestock – along with a lively place to exchange information and gossip. The only restored working grist mill in the region, machinery in the mill is still intact and used during annual festivals. Amos branch supplies the water that powers the mill.

Bush Mill celebrated it's 100th birthday in October 1996. Restored in the late 1990s, the1896 water-powered grist mill uses stones to grind grain into meal and is open to the public during Bush Mill Days held each October. The event is sponsored by the Nickelsville Ruritan Club. Bush Mill was recognized by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources as a Virginia Landmark in 2008. Come out and visit this one-of-a-kind historic landmark!
