This cache series - Smith Run - is located along a Fredericksburg City Public Trail, created and supported by the Fredericksburg Pathways Partnership, accessible from two trailheads just off Cowan Boulevard.
The trail memorializes the battles of Smith Run, as depicted on the placard placed along the trail:

The West end trailhead has less convenient parking than the East end trailhead and for that reason, the East end trailhead area parking is identified at the PK waypoint below. Apparently, new signs have been posted that don't permit visitor parking at the police department. There are other areas for parking in the vicinity, and parking chosen is left up to the cacher.
All caches in the series can be reached from the trail. During your trail passage you will pass City law enforcement facilities, City Public Works facilities, within view townhome residences, and within view subdivisions, but there is no reason to enter or cross any of those areas.
Smith Run Trail cache #1 is a typical trailhead cache, but it might give some a bit of trouble. If so, check out the encrypted hint that will be placed after the FTF for an assist.
The canopy during the hide was obstructive enough to put the coordinates off by 15'-20'. If you have coordinate suggestions, be sure to include them in your log.
The cache is on the law enforcement side of the fence that separates the school property from the LEOs and there is no need to enter or move across school property on the other side of the fence.
