The Central Office Traditional Cache
K6PDL: There has been road reconstruction at GZ but the cache remained safe until a giant bucket loader, broke off the limb that the cache was hidden on. This cache will forever be a part of Soquel-San Jose Rd. as it is probably covered by several inches of dirt.

A park and log on Soquel-San Jose Road
After 30 years, I still cherish every minute of mountain living. There is nothing quite like watching the shadows of the trees grow as the sun goes down on a warm summer evening; the incredible sky full of stars on a moonless night. Deer, raccoons, coyotes, bobcats and skunks are our closest neighbors.
But, living in the mountains presents certain challenges that most city dwellers don’t have to contend with. Heavy rains close access roads, trees fall and electricity goes off when it is sunny and windless. There are septic systems to maintain and propane tanks to keep filled.
Telephone service is amazingly dependable. Dial-up access to the internet is common. We were told that we would not be able to get DSL unless we lived within 4 miles of the Central Office. Well, that is 15 miles away for us. But, a couple of years ago, I logged onto the GTE website (maybe it was more than a couple years) and found out that we were eligible to get DSL service! We didn’t move closer to town, but GTE/Verizon moved the central office to the mountains! Behold the nondescript boxes nearby, The Central Office! Our source of high speed internet!
I drive past these boxes several times a day, and if there is a Verizon Service truck parked here, I give a little toot on my horn and a wave of thanks. This cache is to celebrate the little things that make the world community as close as your keyboard.
The cache is a camo’d Preform, approx. The cache contains a log sheet only. Parking is nearby. Bring a pen.
Congratulations to the SunsetKids for being First to Find
