Geocache Description:

These old towers are the remains of the old Reynolds Alluminum Plant power supply, the U.S. government built the existing aluminum plant in 1941 to support its wartime operations, the property was purchased in 1949 by Reynolds Metals, which ceased plant operations in 2000.

Reynolds/Alcoa began demolition of the plant in 2003 to prepare the site for redevelopment, demolition activities have included sampling and removal of additional contaminated material, including building materials, waste, soil and debris.

Demolition was completed in 2005, and a post-demolition evaluation of the plant site area was completed in 2006, the EPA issued a final Record of Decision for the site in September 2006, which concluded that the site soils no longer posed a unacceptable risk, the Columbia and the Sandy Rivers are used for recreational, boating, fishing and other family activities, people reach the rivers by traversing the old Reynolds property.

Reynolds Metals is still in the process of cleaning up the property to EPA industrial, but not residential, standards,
these Steel power towers were owned by the Bonneville Power Administration, Portland General Electric and Pacific Power, and ran through the old property this will limit development beneath them and will continue to be used as a green space and wetland areas. Relocation of the no power towers would be difficult and costly so here they still remain.

The cache is located near one of the old towers in a grassy field used by wild life and dog owners and is now a part of Chinook Landing which has 6 nice boat launches to accsess the Columbia River, if you take a look around you will notice a few more of these no power towers in the distance...
