Informatics East and West both used to be fraternity houses.
Informatics East used to be called the Beta House, so when it was
added as the second Informatics building, I and a few others
thought it should have been called "Informatics Beta" (and by
extension the original Informatics building would be "Informatics
Alpha"), but it never caught on. Now that they've even printed up
new signs, I guess that the names "Informatics East" and
"Informatics West" are here to stay. They're functional and less
confusing, but where's the fun in that?
After this cache had been there awhile, the Informatics
department decided to build a third "building" connecting the two
existing buildings. I took down the cache during the construction
process, but amazingly enough, the hiding spot remained, although
you might feel a little more exposed while searching for this than
you once did.
Just don't ask any of us what "informatics" is. We don't know
either.
When you you have the cache in hand (you'll know because it says
"geocache" on it), it just screws open.
Some people find this cache in a few seconds, while others have
returned to the spot several times before spotting it. So think of
the 2-star difficulty rating as an average. Your mileage may
vary.
