A short trip through a beautiful and historic Suffolk village.
PLEASE NOTE - The co-ordinates shown above are not those of the cache(ignore them), they are just an approximation, or else it would not be a multi-cache.
FIRSTLY- IT WILL MAKE THINGS EASIER (OR POSSIBLE, EVEN) IF YOU SET YOUR GPS TO DEGREES-MINUTES-AND SECONDS.... BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I HAD TO USE AT THE TIME!!!)
There are only three locations to this cache, the idea is for you to find the cache quite quickly then go and explore this pretty little place.
The Church is worth travelling to Rattlesden to visit on it's own and there are two pubs within a minutes walk and a shop for an ice cream if the weather is clement.Say Hi to the ladies in the shop for me!
The name of the cache could be a reference to the links that the village has with the USAF during the war and/or the gliding club, AND, last but not least, the name has been used by some as a 'tongue-in-cheek' nickname for a one-time village postman who had a propensity for returning to the depot quite late... O.K.,usually last, but he did have a lot of dog and cat friends to feed every day...
Now, to the cache- please note ! I'm using degs mins and secs as my gps still thinks i'm at holme next the sea where I finished the Peddars way, so i'm using the googlemeister.
The First location is ...N 52 10' ??.50" E000 52' ??.26"
How do you find the missing digits? Just rack your brains for at least an hour, then check the picture gallery and drag your eyes away from the handsome postman to explore the picture.
When you get there, after a little 'dedication' to the task in hand you'll soon see the number your looking for. Use that number to complete the second co-ordinates which are
N 52 11' ?3.59" E 000 5?' 20.57" (it's the same digit used twice) At the second location , you're looking for what is,quite literally, some terrible carpentry.Mind the road here , by the way. Take that Carpenters initials and convert them in to numbers in the simplest possible manner*, then add them together and subtract them from 60. Take the remaining number and put it where it obviously belongs in these co-ords.... N 52 11' ??.45" E 000 53' 33.49" and there you go...your father's brother is known as 'Robert'
Oh, and don't forget to take some dog biscuits!
(Thanks to 'LIZ' for her help!)
