Union Canal Bridge No12

The Union Canal as built was 31½ miles long and was Scotland's only contour canal. Known locally at the time as the "mathematical river", the canal followed the 240ft (73m) contour throughout its length, so making locks unnecessary. It has 62 fixed bridges along the canal.

Report This bridge carries an unclassified road over the Union Canal (built 1818-22, designer Hugh Baird) 140m NW of Hermiston House.

2001 Report This bridge is shown on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Edinburghshire 1853, sheet 5), on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1989) and on the OS 1:10000 raster map (ND), where the road it carries is labelled Hermiston House Road.

The nearby road is a busy narrow road for parking, best to walk/cycle along the canal.

A cache container within a 'container', bring your own pen/pencil.

The cache is in the open but supposed to be devious, (unless you are a Pentland walker). Please do not mention the container or any hints in your logs.
