Geocache Description:

Located in the remaining 10% of Tullaree Swamp, this lovely spot is reached from the carpark by a 750m flat, easily accessible walking track. The meandering stroll takes about 15mins each way and should be able to be easily traversed by wheelchairs and pushers.

Please respect the area and remain on the pathway. If you walk quietly you should be able to see / hear a variety of birds - perhaps even an orange bellied parrot if you are very lucky!

Please rehide cache exactly as you found it and be gentle with the area. Thank you

In the instance of excessive rain down this way - the little wooden bridge often goes under water - we suggest wellington boots are a good idea to pack for these occasions - the views at the end are well worth it.

Historical notes:
The original inhabitants of this region were the Bunurong and Jatowarawara people.
Agricultural development involving extensive clearing of vegetation, drainage works including diversion channels, levee banks and drains, turned the original wetlands of the Tarwin estuary and river into grazing country.
Tullaree House (PRIVATELY OWNED - not visible from the road) is further north than here, closer to Buffalo. Whilst the swamp has been drained from this area the land and roads still flood very heavily during winter when the Fish Creek Drain is in full 'flow' and this is with all the drainage ditches being maintained! Driving around the roads near Tullaree House during winter gives you just a small idea of what the place must have been like for the Clement sisters in their final days and an understanding that Margaret Clement (the sister on whom the book "Lady of the Swamp" was based) probably slipped off the causeway and was washed down to the sea rather than murdered!
