Wellies in your stone??? Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is located along a footpath just off of The Saint’s Way.
It is close to the area where in the 1850’s, a large boulder was worked and removed to form the Duke of Wellington’s tomb in St Paul’s Cathedral, hence the title ‘Wellies in your stone’! The rock used for the tomb is called luxullianite. Mainly comprising tourmaline, reddened feldspars and quartz, it has a very pretty and distinctive appearance, created by the chemical alteration of granite by hot volatile-rich fluids. I have also uploaded some pics of the rock and the actual tomb. There are a number of ways to approach the cache: 1) From Luxulyan Village – Down The Saint’s Way path behind the Post Office/Store 2) From Blackhill Car Park in the Luxulyan Valley – Then across the Treffry Viaduct 3) From Prideaux - Up The Saint’s Way path and around Travanney Farm There are some great views to be had, but please note that ALL 3 ways can be muddy – Even in summer!
