The Wakefield Way is a
75 mile walking route around the Wakefield Metropolitan District
and offers an introduction to the area's variety of attractive
landscapes and wealth of history.

It is hoped that other
cachers in and around Wakefield/Leeds area will also join in and
place caches along The Way until we complete the circuit and
encircle The Merrie City in a ring of tupperware.

The Midgley to Overton
section of The Wakefield Way starts near the Water Tower on the
A637 Huddersfield Road and passes through pleasant rolling rural
landscape which was once scarred by extensive mining activity as
evidenced by the many shafts in the area marked by mounds in the
middle of the fields with trees on them. The path passes through
Newhall Prison and then on and through New Hall Farm. As you
approach Overton there are extensive views to the east over
Wakefield
The paths on this
section are generally suitable for off road type buggies but can be
quite wet and muddy in places after rain especially through the
farm.
