This is part of a series of 24 caches which are placed on a circular walk around The Creetings via footpaths, country lanes and the remnants of ancient Suffolk green lanes which were formerly used as highways, but are now footpaths. The final cache #24 is a bonus with the co-ordinates available in the series numbers #22 and #23.
Cache #23 Green Lane
THIS CACHE CONTAINS PART OF CREETING CIRCULAR #24 BONUS CO-ORDS
Green lanes are of ancient origin; many in East Anglia are from Saxon times. They can often be distinguished from footpaths by the wide spacing between the side hedgerows. They were used for the herding and driving of livestock and for the carting of goods. This particular example is just a short overgrown remnant which is now a footpath. The wide space between the side hedges is still apparent though.
