Thanks must go to
the Estate Manager of the nearby National Trust office for
permission to place this cache.
Equipment required
for this cache:
Torch (essential)
Compass (No good Geocacher should be without one)
Brain cells (No good Geocacher should be without these
either!)
Wellies or good walking boots/shoes
Before you go to
the start coordinates, you need to solve the following 4 x 4 grid
puzzle:
To solve the puzzle, use all the numbers from 1 to 16 as follows:
1. In the above 4 x 4 grid, all the numbers in a row add up to
the figure at its right-hand end, while all the numbers in a column
add up to the figure at the bottom of the column.
2. 16 is two cells below and two to the right of
8
3. 13 is immediately below 1
4. 3 is immediately above 12 and immediately to the
right of 14
5. 5 is two cells above 13 and one cell above and one
cell left of 9
6. 15 is two cells left of 2 and immediately below
4
7. 2 is immediately left of 10, which is immediately
below 6.
From the solution to the 4 x 4 puzzle, go to the parking /
night-time start location at:
N51º (A4-C2).(A1+B2)(D3)(B3-D4)
W2º (B4 x 3).(C4+A3)(B1)(D1-C4-B2)
Once you have arrived at the start coordinates, hold your torch
at head height and point it approximately south east to pick up the
first firetack. You will be looking for ten trees with firetacks
attached. The tenth tree has two firetacks. This is where the cache
is hidden. You are looking for a camouflaged, clip-lock plastic
container. At no time do you need to go down any sloping ground or
cross any fences, walls or stiles. Unfortunately, because of the
nature of the terrain, wheelchair users will not be able to do the
cache.
Although there are no nasty slopes or holes and no barbed wire,
the ground can be a little uneven and slippery at times. You may
well encounter nettles and possibly brambles, so wellies are
advised.
There is a £1 coin awaiting the First To Find the cache.
Have fun and take care.
