Mindestenen for hesten ”Ino”.

Generalløjtnant Christopher (Gerhard) von Krogh (1785-1860) Fændrik ved kronprinsens regiment i sit 5 år, sekondløjtnant i sit 10 år, men begyndte først aktiv tjeneste i 1801.

(Kilde: Vor tids konservations Leksikon 1937. English:

Monument for the horse ”Ino”. Right next to Taarnborgvej, in the small grass-covered area that the road “Taarnborgbroen” cuts off, a granite rock lies with an I imbedded into it. Even though the area is passed daily by thousands of people, probably only a few notice the modest rock, and of those few, probably even fewer understands what the I means.

The I stands for “INO”, which is the name of the horse that general Krogh rode on during the Battle of Isted, July the 25th 1850, and the horse is buried beneath the rock. Why is general Krogh’s horse buried on the fields of ”Tårnborg”? The reason is that general Krogh’s daughter was married with the owner of “Tårnborg”, Valdemar Tully Oxholm, so the horse that carried “The Victor at Isted” enjoyed his retirement close by Korsør, by his owner’s son-in-law. Lieutenant General Christopher (Gerhard) von Krogh (1785-186) Ensign at the crown prince’s regiment in his fifth year, 2nd Lieutenant in his tenth year, he first started active duty in 1801. Captain 1807 and from 1814 Cavalier for Queen Marie Sofie Frederikke, in which position he advanced to Colonel in 1842 and chief of the 5th battalion. In 1847,

Major General, and chief of the 1st infantry brigade. Replaced General Hedemann as Field Marshall, July 1848. In a dispute with Hansen, the Minster of War, he was discharged after the accident at Eckernförde, the 17th of April 1849. Field Marshall again in 1850, where he was victorious at the Battle of Isted. Becomes Lieutenant General, Grand Cross in the Order of the Dannebrog, and receives 15.000 Danish rigsdaler as a national reward. “TheVictor at Isted” was very popular.

On the Isted Lion’s original plinth were four medallions of Helgelsen, Krogh, Læsøe and Schleppegrell. The last two fell in the Battle of Isted. (Source: “Vor tids konservations Leksikon”, 1937.)
