Spitler's Spots
Along the trail from the Overlook to the Saw Mill at Lake Sonoma
is a newer
bridge. It was constructed with donations by the Back Country
Horsemen, as
a tribute to Dr David Spitler in 2004. I saw Dr Spitler a few
years before
his death, when he treated a family member in the ER in Santa Rosa,
the first
time I'd met him, however, was when his sister sold me my first
horse, an
Appaloosa, who looked a awful lot like the ultimate caching
machine, J.J.
That is where the similarities end, and David summed it up so
perfectly that
night in the ER, "Oh, you're the one who bought that nut case!"

You are looking for a 2 cup clear, rubbermaid container, hidden
in a common
style for this terrain. You will not find it in any area of
the above
photo (ie, please don't bother the plaque). The trail is
hardpack most of
the way, you can bring your dog here, but for it's safety and mine,
please keep
it leashed. Terrain is not tricky, but the trail is
long. Great views, camping
nearby.
