StopTheWorld found this arboreal portal rather majestic, so we have hidden a cache there so you can see it for yourself.
There are two ways to approach the cache. See below for the co-ordinates of both approaches. Whichever way you get to the cache, you will need to climb to an altitude of 260m on well-defined tracks. A team of average fitness should be able to find, sign the log and return to their car in under 2 hours, fit teams maybe an hour. The more northerly is probably the easier and slightly shorter track, but you will climb to almost 300m elevation in one long haul. This route would rate at around 3.5 terrain due to the climb. Enter at the Smithfield Conservation Park gates, and follow the road up the hill. You pass a water tank soon into the walk. Just keep on going up the hill. The more southerly track may allow you to take in some other caches in the area and will offer some great views, but expect to negotiate some parts of the well-marked track shuffling on your bottom and climbing using your hands (hence the terrain rating of 4!). Part of this route is a renowned and well-regarded downhill cycling track, but only experienced downhillers should contemplate doing this one in the saddle. If walking, look out and listen for bikes- they may be moving fast. Walk from your car up the hill, past the tank and continue up the road until you arrive at a track on your left heading steeply downhill at around S16 48.341 E145 41.006. Take this path, and at the T-junction at the bottom turn right. The cache is on this track. The cache is a small container for smaller swaps and TBs. Please rehide carefully, as people walk this track regularly. Also replace the rocks and avoid putting anything that smells of food in the cache to keep the animals away. When hiding the cache, signs of wild pigs were noted in the immediate vicinity, and snakes were seen on the path during the dry, cool winter. As always in north Queensland, keep your eyes open and take care.
