Geocache Description:

I didn't realize how much engineering an underwater 5 5 cache would require. I thought the first build of this cache would last but after it sat under water for the spring run off it was obvious that some re-engineering was going to be required.

The threads seized up and people were having a hard time getting the lid off, the release on the chain also seized up, the chain was too light and was pulled apart.

I discussed this with some of the local geocachers (who wish to remain anonymous) and with their help and ideas we think we came up with another cache container that should last longer.

The amount of specialized equipment you will need depends on the time of year. Summer, a snorkel. Any other time of year, snorkel and dry suit.

Once you find the cache you can pull it out of its hiding spot but there is a chain attached to an anchor to help keep it in the spot. Make sure that you unhook the cache with the carabineer before lifting the cache out of the water.

If you are not sure that you can replace the cache the same exact way that it was hidden DO NOT RETRIEVE IT.

The Corps of Engineers just lowered the reservoir from spring run off so the cache is about 4 feet under water, but later in the summer they will start to fill it again and the cache will be 8-10 feet deep.

Any logs with pictures of the container WILL be deleted.

Also everybody that logs the cache must enter the water. Buddy caching is fine but the purpose of a 5 5 is the fun in getting the cache.
