Devil's Nose is the northern most summit of Sleepy Creek Mountain, its not far from the Woods Resort. It's a beautiful area with a unique rock formation where the stream (Meadow Branch) goes through the canyon. It's a great circuit hike, on a nice trail to a great location. It's a special environment, with lots of hemlock trees and rhododendron plants. This place is worth the hike! This is the 5th cache on the circuit.
Sleepy Creek WMA has a trail access in Sleepy Hollow Subdivision. You will park at the coordinates listed as Parking, near a sign that says "Sleepy Creek WMA, Devil's Nose Access". You will be parking and hiking in Sleepy Creek WMA. Follow Audubon Road for about 2 miles to Maverick Trail, just a little less than 2 miles. The access is at the end of Maverick Trail at the coordinates below. Should anyone ask, tell them you are going to the Sleepy Creek Access. Follow the jeep trail out of the parking lot. When you come to a large, open turnaround area, take the trail to the left. There are several caches along this trail. By going to the following caches in the order listed, it will lead you to Devil's Nose and this cache. Meadow Branch @ Devil's Nose GC1WNME Devil's Nose Trail - Heading uphill GC1WNMA Devil's Nose - You're almost there GC1WNHR (This cache) This cache is just above and off the trail. This cache is 300 feet from a beautiful rock outcropping. When you get to the rock outcropping, please exercise caution if small children are with you. This is a beautiful and unique rock outcropping. (see pictures) It's very flat, very large and easy to walk on, but there are no safety rails or anything to prevent children from getting to close to the edge. Holding hands of little ones will be required. Its a long fall!!! Please stay well away from edges. Please hide well, this area has lots of hikers.
