Located along an easy walking path.
It was one of those things you just don’t believe will happen where you live.
Now heading towards 100 years, thousands of golfers have happily played this course. Probably, only a handful remember the day tragedy struck.
The old Henderson Lake Golf Club house is gone to be replaced with the more modern one you see today at the same location.
The date was February 21, 1945.
A Mrs. Ogloff was said to be “madly in love” with her husband and wanted him to end his association with the “other woman.” Only a few days earlier, the husband had returned from a trip to Vancouver and the wife suspected that he had been associating with the “other woman” at the coast.
He was found shot to death in the golf course club house while outside the family car revealed their two children aged 5 & 9 and the mother Mrs Ogloff with their throats slit. The mother’s hand still clenched the razor.
Lethbridge was a quiet little city of about 15,000 at the time. As a nine year old myself it was a news item I would never forget. The micro cache is found near the entrance to the golf course. Most people seeing the Henderson Lake Golf Course sign have happy thoughts. But there are those who still remember.
